This is an example of binary opposition because the black and white oppose each other. The general outlook on black is looked at as darkness, and is thought of to be a bad color or associated with bad things. The general outlook on the color white is looked at as pure and is often associated with good things. When did these colors get these associations that oppose each other? Why does black have a negative outlook and white has a positive outlook? They should be look at in the same manner, after all they are both just colors.
